Introduction to my Research Paper

Introduction to the USVI        The U.S. virgin islands have been controlled and sold by multiple countries throughout its history but there have only been a select few that have left a lasting impact on the islands forever. One main reason that the Dutch initially traveled to the U.S. virgin islands is because they were strategically laid between Dutch colonies in the south and New Netherlands. The Dutch saw the promise the islands had to create infrastructure as well as a center for trade which would then make their nations wealthier. The spark of interest shown by the Dutch would bring many other nations to the islands through the years to see who would end up in control of them.

Self Assessment

My Self  Assessment     In the four weeks we have been using blogs I have been able to get a better understanding on how to format and write them out more easily. I have looked over all of my blog posts and I saw that the one mistake that was the same throughout every post were my grammatical errors. I need to take the time and reread my posts before I continue to finish and publish them if I were to do this after writing my posts, I believe that it would benefit me because I wouldn't lose points on my assignments for a silly mistake. For the most part a blog is pretty easy to manage and work with the one thing that usually gives me stress is how to format pictures throughout my post without messing up the format of my writing. After a couple tries and being patient enough to fit the pictures how I want they usually end up in place. When I write my posts, I will start them right after class and I take my time and make sure I am answering the correct questions and make sure everythi

Getting To Know Your Island

Image
Getting To Know Your Island      The U.S. Virgin Islands consist of three main islands St. Croix, St.Thomas, St. John and 50 smaller islets and cays. The island has a rich history just like many other countries in the Caribbean. What mainly stood out to me and what could be a good topic for my research project is that the islands inhabitants were enslaved and sold off as slaves as well. Although, this time it wasn't conquered by just country it was multiple such as Spain, Great Britain, The Netherlands, France, and Denmark-Norway. The main people that took control were the Danish West India company and they held the island from 1754 until 1916 when the US got control over the country by signing the Treaty of Danish West Indies. The citizens of the island were granted American citizenship and another good topic is the diversity on the island as well. The island was conquered by five different countries throughout history and as of 2010 the population of the Island was 106,405. Seve

History Of Puerto Rico

HISTORY OF PUERTO RICO   Puerto Rico has always had a very interesting historical background when it came to the Modern Era.  Christopher Columbus arrived in Puerto Rico in 1493 it remained an overseas province of Spain until 1898 during the Spanish-American war and was then taken over by the United States. During the life time of the Island there have been multiple groups that have settled on the island for example the tainos were the indigenous people of Puerto Rico and had been there up to 1000 years before Christopher Columbus had arrived on the island. Once Christopher Columbus got there he brought the second group of settlers and they stayed there for some time so they could make goods that they needed. The third group to live on the island were the Americans while they got there the latest they took the island in order to get Spain out of there but also because, of their interests in developing a sugar market on the island. After around roughly four hundred years of colonial rul

La Isla Del Encanto

La Isla Del Encanto     The island of Puerto Rico is one full of a rich culture an amazing history and you'll find some of the nicest and most approachable people there. The island of Puerto Rico itself is located right next to Cuba and is relatively small compared to it but although the island lacks in size it makes up for it in culture and fun things to do. If you are considering traveling to this beautiful island there are some things you might want to know before planning a trip. There a plenty of beaches all over the island that are perfect to go to for a nice long day on the beach with your family, friends or significant other. A good choice would be Flamenco Beach which is located on the island of Culebra which is a Puertorican Municipality. While at Flamenco beach if you wanted to you are allowed to camp on the beach overnight I have been told that it is a great experience and if you ever have the chance it is highly recommended. Another classic spot is El Yunque Natio
